A talk with Danny Treacy

Last week our guest speaker was Danny Treacy, A documentary photographer whos projects revolve around abandonment and empty spaces. He started with photographing empty houses left from deceased people which he described as a ‘tomb to the previous occupant’.

This led to his masters project looking at 200 flats that where about to be demolished, from this he found old clothes from the occupants and began experimenting with wearing them. He spoke about how even if you’re not quite sure whats going wrong to keep going as you never know where it will end up.

from this he went on to collect found clothing from the river Thames in London and photograph himself in the studio wearing them. It’s interesting to hear him speak about why he put certain pieces together and what they represent.

His projects and style have lead him to be commissioned for fashion shoots, even if its not something that you particularly enjoy it can help fund your projects.
